Excuses…
January 26th, 2009 . by Leon Jay .I think all of us know we make excuses to ourselves - and I think a lot of us listen to those excuses. This
prevents us from doing anything. We can’t reach our goals if we’re not taking any action.
How can we stop making excuses? Simply by monitoring our thoughts and consciously being on the lookout. When you recognise yourself making an excuse, acknowledge that is what you are doing.
The next thing is to override your excuse(s) and take the necessary action to get you to your goals. By not giving in to your excuses you create a new habit in your life. You are literally programming yourself to make less and less excuses.
Procrastination and excuses will become a shadow of your old self. Your new behaviour will be set. As you take action faster and more regularly.
Something to keep in mind: An excuse is different from a reason. A reason is based in the real world (while an excuse is not based in reality). Even if you do have what you perceive as a valid reason for not taking action it’s great to ask yourself, “How can I work around this reason to still achieve my goal?” Your brain will give you a host of answers.
